Living a monastic lifestyle

February 18, 2008 by Mark

I was speaking with the Lord concerning our generation. He told me that our generation was a very fast moving generation. This is good in that they will accomplish much for the Kingdom of God. It’s bad in that Satan only has to push us one tenth of a degree off, and we end up in heresy in a matter of weeks. We need to reclaim the redemptive gift of our grandparents’ generation. The greatest gifts that they passed on to us is integrity and dependability. I feel like the Lord impressed upon my heart that for our generation to be one ounce as dependable as the GI’s, we need to live an almost monastic lifestyle in this life. We need to be radical in fasting and prayer, and purposeful in setting aside time to spend with the Lord. We are a constantly moving and constantly changing generation, and we need to be anchored in the Word and in the place of prayer in order to be steady. Personally, I’m trying to anchor myself more in the Word. I find my mind easily wandering - a generational epidemic. I think A.D.D. is something that our generation invented. I’m going to try to purposefully set aside time to unplug and read the Word. I know that this time will reap clarity of vision and depth of wisdom.

Lord Jesus, I want to be steady. Fix my eyes on your glory, and set my feet on a pilgrimage.
